Anxiety counseling

Whether it’s giving a presentation at work, paying bills, or confronting an issue we don’t want to deal with, anxiety causes mental and physiological changes that impact our lives. This is generally short-lived, and can even be a positive learning experience.

Ongoing anxiety, on the other hand, is a medical illness that includes panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, and other disabling diseases. Anxiety disorders may start during the childhood or teenage years, and continue on through adulthood. Chronic medical conditions can also be a contributing factor to anxiety.

The counselors at A Peaceful Balance understand the impact that ongoing anxiety can have on both our physical and mental health and how it can affect our daily life. Through anxiety counseling, our therapists work with each client to understand and uncover the root of their own anxiety and to help to discover ways to find freedom from ongoing anxiety.

Risk factors for anxiety:

    • Childhood shyness and nervousness
    • Stressful events or environments
    • Family history of anxiety

It is possible to have more than one anxiety disorder – the types are listed below:

    • Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
    • Panic disorder
    • Social anxiety disorder
    • Phobia-related disorders (such as agoraphobia, fear of flying, fear of heights, etc.)
