Meghan Slaalien, MSW, LICSW
Meghan Slaalien, MSW, LICSW owns and operates Meghan Slaalien, LLC, doing business as A Peaceful Balance Clinical Consultation & Counseling Services located in Nashua, NH. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Counseling with a minor in Psychology from Lesley University in 2011, where she was her class Salutatorian. Meghan received her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Simmons University School of Social Work in 2013.
Meghan is currently a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the National Alliance for Children’s Grief. Her experience includes five years as an intern and volunteer at The Children’s Room, a non-profit agency. She also assisted in running multiple support groups within the agency. Meghan helped facilitate training sessions and assisted with grief support groups at a local high school. Loss, grief, and bereavement support continue to be a passion of Meghan’s in her current practice.
Meghan has experience working as an individual and group therapist in a prevention and recovery outpatient program. This program supports young adults experiencing initial symptoms and first episodes of major mental illnesses. These include Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Additionally, she has several years of experience working in residential care. She provided therapy and advocacy for children and families and collaborated with GALs, CASAs, and DCYF. More recently, Meghan worked as a child and family therapist in the community mental health care setting.
Meghan’s Approach
At the heart of Meghan’s approach is her appreciation for the uniqueness and strengths of each individual and family she works with. She believes she can assist individuals and families with the education, experience, and tools she has learned over the years, but that her clients are the experts of their lived experiences, and it is her responsibility to simultaneously learn from each person she meets while integrating the appropriate therapeutic approach based on the individual’s unique needs and strengths. To assist with this mission, Meghan pulls from multiple therapeutic approaches, including Rogerian, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Holistic Psychology, Expressive Arts Therapy, Play Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Being a Social Worker at her core, Meghan also values not just seeing the person for who they uniquely are as an individual, but who they are within their particular environment. Assessment and focus on the impacts of one’s family, gender, class, race, ethnicity, etc. is regularly integrated into Meghan’s therapeutic approach to ensure a more holistic healing process and overall understanding of oneself.
